I love dingle balls, they are my favourite trim on any
garment. It makes me really sad that dingle balls are not as popular as
they were in decades past. I think when most people think of dingle
balls. they think of them as the trim on sombreros and maybe hanging as trim in
a low rider. I think it's time to bring back the dingle ball.
(Side
note, the first thing to come up when dingle balls is googled is something not
very pleasant on Urban Dictionary, blargh. That is not the sort of dingle
ball I am speaking of. If I could go back in time and unread it, I
certainly would!)
Dingle balls, fantastic!
Fabricland
had some fantastic Halloween dingle balls, little bats and spiders and candy
corn colour and also some purple, green and black. Fantastic! I
waited for them to go on sale and bought 3 meters. And then next time I
went into Fabricland I bought another 2 meters, and so on and so on until I
have probably purchased most of the dingles balls they had. Now it's time
to start embellishing everything I own with this fabulous trim!
The first project I made with above dingle balls was a lime
green stretch taffeta pencil skirt. I
used my favourite skirt pattern which I have drafted for myself. I love love love, the lime green taffeta and
will probably make a pair of trousers as well out of it.
Green Taffeta
I have now started a new project, New Look pattern 6587, to
make a button up shirt dress out of black cotton sateen. I also purchased some matching ric rac trim
for the edge of the skirt. I am thinking
that I might also try my hand at making some resin spangle buttons as
well. I am really excited for this
project to be finished as I am only on the fabric cutting stage at the
moment.

I will update on the progress of project dingle ball once I
have it pieced together. It is the
perfect project for a rainy Monday, while Artie cat snores the day away
on the sofa.
